Hulmefa desk. Beautiful Dutch design. Tijsseling created this unique desk for Hulmefa in the 50s. This desk is special because of the beautiful organic details such as the table top, the legs and the beautiful handles. Undoubtedly a beautiful simple design that is reminiscent of the organic shapes of Scandinavian design. The top of this Hulmefa desk is boat-shaped and the drawer units appear to float. There is a drawer unit on both sides. There are two drawers on the right side and one large drawer on the left side. Sufficient storage space. At the back of the desk is a bookshelf. So you don’t look under the desk, because this bookshelf works like a ‘shutter’.

Dutch furniture in the 50s.
In the 50s, Dutch furniture designers emerged strongly with their characteristic styles. This period was characterized by clean lines, transparant design, functionality and the use of new materials. Designers such as Wim Rietveld and Friso Kramer introduced revolutionary ideas for office furniture, while the organic shapes of designers such as Cees Braakman and Tijsseling attracted attention. The Dutch furniture industry in the 50s was known for its innovative approach to design, resulting in timeless pieces that are still appreciated for their simplicity and elegance. Tijsseling and Hulmefa were part of this Mid-century Modern movement in the Netherlands.
