Cheerful 80s desk lamp or table lamp in Memphis style / Pop Art, colorful and playful design. This 80s lamp is designed and made by Vrieland Design from Goes, the Netherlands.
The Memphis style originated in the 80s in the city of Memphis. A group of designers responded to traditional design principles with bold colours, geometric shapes and playful compositions.
The Memphis style rejected the minimalism of the previous decades and embraced a maximalist philosophy. It celebrated the use of clashing colours, often in vibrant hues such as electric blue, hot pink and lime green. Memphis-style design also embraced a sense of playfulness and humor. It was inspired by pop art and contained whimsical and kitschy elements. Abstract motifs, bold patterns and cartoonish shapes evoked a feeling of joy and lightness.
